Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted with 1.719 hypertensive patients in 06 communes of Hai Phong City, from May 2016 to December 2016, aimed to describe the management of hypertension at the communes. The results showed that 206 people with hypertension never had their blood pressure measured (12.0%); and 18.4% of people had their blood pressure measured but they did not know their hypertensive status. 749 patients (among 1235) have been treated (60.6%). The percentage of people who received counseling to reduce their salt intake, increase physical activity, and stop smoking were 74.1%; 63.4%; 27.5% respectively. The proportion of adherent patients to treatment was 49.1%; and 50.9% of patients did not comply with treatment. 72.4% of treated patients did not achieve the target blood pressure. It’s recommended that commune health stations should strengthen screening to detect diseases, increase communication, education activities, and counseling to increase the rate of patients being treated and treated to achieve blood pressure treatment target.
