A cross-sectional descriptive study of over 130 mothers and 130 children aged 12- 23 months in Thuy Son commune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong City conducted from December 10, 2019 to May 20, 2020 to describe the Immunization status of children under 1 year old in 2019 in this area. The results show that 100% of children were involved in the expanded program of immunization. Only 15.38% of children were fully immunized and in time. 70.77% of children were fully immunized. The main reasons for not being fully immunized were concerning the vaccines’ safety (48.15%) and unaware of the vaccines (25.93%). 15.38% of children were vaccinated as scheduled for all of 8 vaccines. Among the children who were not vaccinated in time, the reasons were mostly due to the child being sick (75.93%), lack of vaccines in EPI (50%) and the concerns of the vaccines’ safety (24.07%). On average 30.2% of doses were made by private services, the highest number of doses vaccinated at private services were accounted for DPT-VGB-Hib (38.7%, 46.2% and 49.1% for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd doses respectively). To be fully immunized and vaccinated as scheduled for children under 1 year of age, besides planing for needed vaccine, it is needed to do counseling, providing the right information on vaccines’ benefits and the possible risks of vaccination, detecting the children who miss vaccination, reminding, advocating children’s family to make sure the children will be fully vaccinated and in time.
