Abstract

Food choices have increasingly played an important role in customers’ health. The study’s objectives are to describe the customers’ awareness about nutrition label and some related factors of customers in supermarkets and stores in 5 cities in Vietnam in 2019. Cross-sectional study, using quantitative study was implemented among 1,494 people. The results showed that the prevalence of customers who have ever known about nutrition label is 52.7%; from 42.4% to 43.7% customers’ awareness that nutrition label and a good label is different. Nutrition ingredients on nutrition labels most known are Calories and least known are Carbohydrates. Gender, age, and occupation are associated factors with have ever known about nutrition label. The prevalence of customers’ awareness of the nutrition label and nutrition ingredients is still low. Therefore, the Ministry of Health should educate people about nutrition label, nutrition ingredients, and the relationship between nutrition information on products and people’s health, and then make healthier choice when buying foods.
