Dementia and some related factors in the elderly in Hai Phong city in 2022

Abstract

This study aims to describe dementia status and some related factors in the elderly in Hai Phong City in 2022. The study results showed that the rate of dementia was 13.9%, the analysis found five factors that increase the risk of dementia: the group of people over 75 years old compared with the group from 60 to 75 years old (OR = 4 .67; 95%CI = 3.54 - 6.16; p < 0.05), lower secondary school education (OR = 2.89; 95%CI = 1.84 - 4.29; p < 0.05), single/ widowed (OR = 1.44; 95%CI = 1.02 - 2.04; p < 0.05), had a history of cerebrovascular accident (OR = 1, 68; 95%CI = 1.01 - 2.78; p < 0.05), with a history of memory disorders (OR = 3.52; 95%CI = 2.46 - 5.03; p < 0.05). From the research results, it is necessary to pay attention to early intervention for dementia, focusing on subjects with memory disorders and single/ widowed elderly.
