Situation of Diabetes type 2 among people older than 30 years in Phu Thien distrist, Gia Lai province 2020

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus had a serious impact on community health witha high number of cases and deaths. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes in Vietnam's 20 - 79 years old group (2019) and in Gia Lai’s people greater than 45 years old (2009) were 6.0% and 4.9%, respectively. This study aims to describe the situation of diabetes type 2 among people older than 30 years in Phu Thien distrist, Gia Lai province 2020. A cross - sectional studywas conducted on 600people more than 30 years old in Phu Thien district, Gia Lai province (2020) using stratified random sampling method. Study participants were interviewed by questionnaires, measured anthropometric indicators, and tested for capillary blood glucose by SD-Check Gold. The results showed that the prevalences of diabetes and of pre-diabetes inPhu Thien were 7.9% and 22.5%, respectively. The highest diabete prevalence was 16.0% in group aged from 50 to 59 years. The research showed that the relationship between age (OR = 2.4; 95%CI: 1.26 – 4.49), overweight and obesity (OR = 3.66; 95%CI: 1.4 – 9.63), family historyof diabete (OR = 8.07; 95%CI: 4.07 – 15.97)are closely related to diabetes mellitustype 2. It is necessary to strengthen interventions on awareness and behavior change in diabetes prevention and treatment suitable for each age group and overweight and obese group.
