Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are leading cause of deaths and disability in Viet Nam. However, prevention and control of these diseases is still very limited, especially at primary care level due to applying inappropriate approach. To help increasing understanding about NCD and finding relevant model for NCD prevention and management at grassroots level, the author developed this article. The information is mainly from WHO and MOH using google searching tools. Information then was analyzed and summarized to fit with requirement of the overview article. The article has two parts. The first is the introduction about NCD including concept, common NCDs, burden and causes. The purpose of this part is to give overview about NCD. The second part is about the requirements to manage NCD and introduce some models to manage NCDs focusing on the model applying the public health approach for NCD management at primary care of Viet Nam. This is new approach. The purpose is to substantially reduce big treatment gap of NCD in short time.
