Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease with
an increasing incidence of illness and now
becoming a leading concern of the world which highly contribute to the number of deaths globally. This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 326 elderly people in Nam Son commune, An Duong, Hai Phong in 2019 – 2020 to describe the hypertension status
and some related factors in the elderly. The
results show that: the rate of hypertension in
the elderly in Nam Son commune is 35.3%;
High blood pressure degree 2 accounts for the highest percentage (14.4%). Factors related to high blood pressure in the elderly include: gender: male, obeysity, alcohol consumption, oily diet, salty diet. Research on hypertension in the elderly is the base for implementing effective interventions to reduce the rate of
disease and complications of hypertension in the community.
