Knowledge, attitude, practice and some factors related to knowledge about HIV/AIDS prevention and control of people aged 15 to 49 years old in Long An province in 2022

A cross - sectional descriptive study was carried on 890 people aged 15 to 49 years old in Long An in 2022. The objective of the study was to describe knowledge, attitude, practice and some factors related to knowledge on HIV/ AIDS prevention. The results show that the percentage of people with the correct knowledge and attitudes about HIV/AIDS prevention and control is not high, accounted for 44.4% and 4.9%, respectively. The percentage of people who had sex with another person in the past 12 months was 6.2%. Regarding the relationship between HIV/AIDS prevention and control knowledge and factors, our study highlighted that people with above-intermediate education have advanced correct knowledge 1.5 times compared to the group with below-intermediate education with 95% CI: 1.07 – 1.97. Workers have 1.9 times higher knowledge than unskilled laborer (95% CI: 1.20 – 3.04). People who
living in remote, borderline and rural districts have 1,5 and 1,4 times higher correct knowledge than urban districts with 95% CI: 1.08 - 2.00 and 95% CI: 1.03 – 1.86. Therefore, health communication and education on HIV/AIDS prevention and control should be carried out more often, diversifying forms, suitable to each target group, especially put emphasis on to people’s low educational level, people who living in urban districts.
