The paper aims to estimate cost - effectiveness
of the school - based mental health promotion
and prevention intervention in Vietnam (RAP-V)
from a societal perspective. A Markov model was
developed and validated to model the costs and
benefits of two alternatives: (1) implementing
RAP-V and (2) do-nothing. The parameters of intervention efficacy, transition probabilities and
utilities were estimated based on the results of
the RAP-V project, systematic reviews and were
validated using expert opinions. Cost parameters
were collected and calculated based on updated
data sources in Vietnam. Deterministic analysis
was applied to estimate the incremental costeffectiveness ratio (ICER). The results showed
that ICER of RAP-V compared to do-nothing
in cases of 5-year, 10-year horizons and lifetime horizon is 41,746,813; 27,540,685 and
21.977.777 VND/QALY gained, respectively.
This deterministic analysis confirmed that
RAP-V has a higher level of cost-effectiveness
compared to do-nothing. Further sensitivity
analysis and threshold analysis are necessary to
provide further evidence for the policy making
process.
