Associated factors of overweight and obesity among students in Hong Thai Primary school, An Duong district, Hai Phong City in 2021

A cross-sectional study was conducted on 424 parents and students at Hong Thai primary school, An Duong, Haiphong, from January 2021 to May 2021 aimed to describe associated factors of overweight and obesity. Body weight, height of students were collected by the anthropometric method; parents were interviewed by the questionnaire. Research results showed that there were 5 factors that increase the tendency of children’s overweight and obese, including father's education level below college - university (OR = 5.72; 95%CI: 1.46 - 22.49; p < 0.05); time to finish dinner after 8pm (OR = 5.43; 95%CI: 2.07 - 104.22; p < 0.01); habit of eating fried food ≥ 3 times/week (OR = 10.98; 95%CI: 3.66 - 32.91; p < 0.001); habit of eating fatty meat ≥ 3 times/week (OR = 4.23; 95% CI: 1.64 - 10.93; p < 0.05); and children who did not do housework (OR = 7.29; 95%CI: 2.00 - 26.60; p < 0.05). It is necessary to increase communication activities to help students have a reasonable diet and physical activity to reduce the risk of disease.
