Abstract

The study aimed to describe the prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and determine some related factors among Khmer people who come for screening for hepatitis B at Tra Vinh General Hospital in 2019. Design a descriptive cross-sectional study, conducting a survey of 263 ethnic Khmer people who came for screening at the hospital during the period from January 2019 to December 2019. Research results show that the prevalence of HBV infection in research subjects is relatively high with 14.1%. Multivariate regression analysis showed that the factors that are actually related to the rate of HBV infection include age group 40 - 49 (OR = 1.73; 95%CI: 1.03 - 3.12; p < 0.05), male gender (OR = 1.69; 95% CI: 1.05 - 6.24; p < 0.05), sharing shaving/epilator tools (OR = 1.91; 95%CI: 1.16 - 5.93; p < 0.05) and shared nail and pedicure tools (OR = 1.75; 95%CI: 1.03 - 7.28; p < 0.05). Health education and communication activities and vaccination against HBV need to be strengthened in this community.
