Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted among 140 nurses in clinical departments of Gia Lam General Hospital to assess their knowledge and practices regarding standard precautions (SP) and identify related factors. Nurses participating in the study were interviewed and observed using a checklist to assess both knowledge and practice. Results showed that 86.4% of nurses had adequate knowledge of SP, and 90.6% had adequate practices. Higher knowledge levels were observed among female nurses, those aged 30 - 40, those with Internet access, longer work experience, SP training, and specialized education on infection control. Similarly, better practices were found among female nurses, those aged 30 - 40, those working in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Infectious Diseases departments, those with Internet access, SP training, and specialized infection control education. The study highlights the need to enhance SP training programs, maintain specialized infection control courses, and combine these efforts with monitoring SP practices. Additionally, leveraging technology and using the Internet to provide materials and online training for nurses is recommended.
