Abstract

Applying the intervention research method, comparing before and after intervention, the study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the intervention results on the management of drug supply for the treatment of hypertension at the commune health stations (CHS) in Ngoc Lac district, Thanh Hoa province in 2023. All 21 CHSs in Ngoc Lac district were selected for the study. Intervention activities included i) organizing workshops to mobilize the supply of drugs for the treatment of hypertension for commune health stations; ii) improving the capacity of commune health station medical staff on treatment management, selection and planning of drugs for the treatment of hypertension; iii) developing and disseminating a drug planning tool on Googledrive for CHSs. The results showed that after the intervention, the availability of essential drugs for the treatment of hypertension at the CHSs was improved. The proportion of hypertensive patients with correct prescriptions increased from 68.0% to 89.6%, and the proportion of patients in the stable phase but whose prescriptions were changed at least once in the last 3 visits due to drug shortages decreased from 60.1% to 3.7%. The proportion of hypertensive patients achieving treatment goals in the last visit increased from 27.3% to 48.9%. The intervention model for managing the supply of drugs for treating hypertension at CHSs should be expanded to CHSs that are implementing hypertension management.
