Occupational injuries among rice farmers in Phu Vang district, Thua Thien Hue province

A cross - sectional study was conducted on 434 farmers in Phu Vang district, Thua Thien Hue Province from July 2021 to June 2022 focusing on agricultural work injuries among farmers in Phu Vang district, Thua Thien Hue province. The results showed that the prevalence of occupational injuries was 50.9%. The main cause of injuries was sharp objects (58.8%) and falls (29.9%). The main types of injuries were scrapes (58.4%), fractures (16.7%), and sprains (13.6%). The injuries were mainly in the shoulder and arm (56.6%), thighs, and lower legs (32.6%). The rate of victims who did not receive treatment for injuries accounted for 39.4%. Injuries that had a big impact on households’ finances accounted for 14.9%; injuries that had little influence on households’ finances accounted for 44.8%. Our findings show that the prevalence of occupational injuries among farmers is quite high. It is necessary to strengthen health education activities focusing on improving knowledge on injury prevention and safety practices for farmers.
