The situation of hypertension in the H're ethnic group aged 40 and over and some related factors in Minh Long district, Quang Ngai province in 2022

Abstract

The study aimed to describe the prevalence and describe some related factors to hypertension in H’re ethnic minority 40 years of age or older in Minh Long District, Quang Ngai Province in 2022. Descriptive epidemiology: descriptive epidemiology A cross-sectional study was conducted on 558 H’re ethnic people aged 40 years and older living in 5 communes in Minh Long district, Quang Ngai province from September 2022 to January 2023. The results showed that the rate of H’re ethnic group with hypertension was 47.7% (male 55.3% and female 44.7%). The proportion of H’re ethnic group with newly discovered hypertension in the community is 41.0%. Some factors related to hypertension characteristic of H’re ethnic group were found through multivariable logistic regression analysis including age 60 and older (OR: 4.67; 95% CI: 2, OR: 4,67; 95% CI: 2, OR: 4, 67; 95% CI: 2). 68 - 8.22), less than primary school education (OR: 2.00; 95% CI:1.07 - 3.75), no or less physically active (OR: 4.40; 95 %CI:1.80 - 10.74), regularly eat salty foods (OR:1.94; 95%CI:1.11 - 3.41), smoke cigarettes (OR:2.01; 95%CI: 1.17 - 3.46), family history of hypertension (OR: 2.33; 95% CI:1.32 - 4.13), history of dyslipidemia (OR: 3.76; 95%CI:1.31 - 10.77). Localities need to pay more attention to screening for early detection of hypertension in the H’re ethnic group even in mountainous areas and develop interventions to change risk behaviors to reduce progression to hypertension.
