Abstract

This cross - sectional study focuses on describing the quality of life (QoL), and mental health and identifies some associated factors among 529 the general medicine students at the Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy, using a self-completed survey. The survey includes the SF-12 questionnaire (QoL assessment), DASS-21 Scale (anxiety - depression - stress scale) and a demographic questionnaire. The average score of students’ QoL is 65.60 ± 18.59, 39.89% among which have average QoL, 37.81% have high QoL, 21.17% have low and 1.13% have very low QoL. The percentage of students showing symptoms of stress, depression and anxiety was 32.33%, 35.35% and 42.16%, respectively. Factors affecting QoL include gender, COVID-19 infection, symptoms of stress, symptoms of anxiety, health status, and financial situation. Factors affecting symptoms of stress and symptoms of anxiety include QoL and financial situation. Factors affecting symptoms of depression include QoL, health status and financial situation. More attention needs to be paid to the quality of life as well as the mental health of medical students, especially in the context of disease outbreaks.
