Abstract

The global prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is increasing, especially in Southeast Asian countries. Gestational diabetes greatly affects the health of the mother as well as the fetus. A cross-sectional study to describe some factors related to the knowledge of pregnant women about GDM was carried out at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hai Phong Medical University Hospital from January to June 2021. The results showed that the percentage of pregnant women who have knowledge about GDM was 21.7%. The factors related to knowledge about diabetes in pregnant women are salaried occupation (OR = 3.1; 95%CI: 1.48 - 6.51; p < 0.01); personal history of GDM (OR = 5.1; 95%CI: 1.27 - 20.51; p < 0.05); received counseling when going to antenatal care (OR = 12.65; 95%CI: 1.68 - 95.16; p < 0.05). The percentage of pregnant women who have good knowledge about GDM was very low. Health workers need to strengthen counseling to improve knowledge about the disease for pregnant women.
