Abstract

Identification of species composition and dengue virus’types in mosquitoes plays an important role in vector control and actively prevention of dengue fever outbreak. This study aims to identification of species composition and dengue virus from Aedes vector at outbreak sites in central Vietnam, 2018 - 2020. This
study was conducted to collected mosquito samples from outbreaks in 11 provinces in the Central region from May 2018 to December 2020. Mosquitoes were collected by Backpack machine at outbreak sites. Then the mosquito’s samples were preliminary classificated of species identification, stored in liquid nitrogen and transported to Nha Trang Pasteur Institute for later testing by RT-PCR. A total of 10,984 mosquitoes were collected out of 155 outbreak sites, included Aedes, Culex, Anopheles, Armigeres species; species composition as following 7.392 belong to Aedes sp., accounted for 67.3%, 2.625 were Culex sp., accounted 23.9%, 879 were Anopheles sp. Accounted for 8% and 92 for Armigeres sp. Accounted for 0.8%. Test results from those mosquitoe samples showed only dengue virus types as following 2 DENV4 (0.49%) in Da Nang, 2 DENV4 (0.2%) in Binh Dinh and 1 DENV1 (0.04%) in Khanh Hoa. This is the first study in the Central region on the identification of dengue virus in mosquitoes using RT-PCR technique. Future studies need to continue to monitor dengue virus infection rates in
mosquitoes at outbreak sites in order to control and prevent Dengue more effectively.
