Abstract

This study aims to describe associated
factors of overweight and obesity among pupils in Nguyen Van Cu Secondary school, Uong Bi, Quang Ninh. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 460 subjects who are pupils of Nguyen Van Cu Secondary school, Uong Bi city, Quang Ninh province, from September 2018 to May 2019. Pupils were measured weight, height by the anthropometric method. Research results showed that some risk factors that were signifcantly associated with overweight and obesity includeding: gender, eating more meal, nocturnal binge eating eating fried foods ≥ 3 times/week, eating meat
fat≥ 3 times/week. In the multivariate logistic regression analysis model, there were only two factors that increased the risk of overweight and obesity, those were eating fried foods ≥ 3 times/week (OR=4,409; 95%CI: 1,676- 11,599) and eating fatty meat ≥ 3 times/week (OR=4,118; 95%CI: 1,394-12,161). From the
results of this study, it is necessary to strengthen communication activities to support students in getting a balanced diet in order to reduce the risk of overweight and obesity.
