Huong river serves as a drinking water source for approximately one million residents; however, it has been facing a variety of issues, including climate change and human activities. Therefore, this study was carried out to describe the microbiological pollution of Huong river, Thua Thien Hue province, in 2020 by quantifying total coliforms and fecal coliforms using membrane flter technique. We collected 30 samples of surface water as well as 5 samples of wastewater discharged into Huong river to
analyse two microbiological parameters, namely total coliforms and fecal coliforms, which are indicators for fecal contamination from humans and animals. The result has shown that all water samples were contaminated with total coliforms and fecal coliforms. Up to 22 sample locations have a deterioration in the microbiological quality of water. Only one location can use this water for domestic purposes but must be treated appropriately.
