A cross - sectional study was conducted on 720 general medical students at Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy to describe students’ knowledge, practice and some related factors about antibiotic use. The results showed that 96.0% of students had good knowledge about the use of antibiotics, while 74.9% had good practice in the most recent use of antibiotics. Factors related to knowledge
about antibiotic use include female gender (OR = 1.99; 95%CI: 1.30 - 6.87); Grades Y4 - 5 - 6 (OR = 5.93; 95%CI: 1.47 - 23.91) and having an internship at the hospital (OR =
4.64; 95%CI: 1.72 - 12,50). Factors related to good antibiotic use practices include: grades Y4 - 5 - 6 (OR = 1.46; 95%CI: 1.02 – 2.07); satisfied with monthly spending (OR = 1.51; 95%CI: 1.04 – 2.21). More education on the appropriate use of antibiotics is needed in the curriculum for general medical students, both in schools and hospitals.
