HIV infection rate and some risks of infection among female prostitutes and homosexual men in Hai Phong in 2022

Abstract

A retrospective study was carried out on 300 female prostitutes and 50 homosexual men in Hai Phong in 2022 to determine the HIV infection rate and describe some infection risks among these groups. Results showed that the HIV prevalence of female prostitutes was 4.33%. The HIV rate of MSM was 9.33%. 9% of the female prostitutes had had drug injections before. The HIV infection rate of the female prostitutes who were injecting drug users (IDU) accounted for 14.81%, higher than that of those who were not: 3.3% (p < 0,05). 26% of the MSM had used drugs before. Among the female prostitutes, 94.67% used condoms in the most recent sexual intercourse with clients, and 5.33% did not. Among MSM, the people having sex with male partners to receive money accounted for 7.33%. The MSM who had experienced group sex made up 6.67%.
