Current situation of seasonal influenza vaccine and some associated factors among pregnant women in Hai Phong Medical University Hospital and Hai Phong Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in 2023

Abstract

A cross - sectional study was conducted among 400 pregnant women who had been examined and treated at two hospitals (Hai Phong Obstetrics and Gynecology and Hai Phong Medical University), aiming to describe the current status of seasonal influenza vaccination and some related factors. The proportion of pregnant women vaccinated against seasonal influenza was 36%; the most vaccination location was at the service vaccination centers (52.78%). The main reason for not getting vaccinated was not having heard about the flu vaccine, not being interested in the flu vaccine, and not knowing about the effects of the flu vaccine. Factors associated with influenza vaccination include: Having a history of influenza (OR = 2.83; 95%CI = 1.26 - 6.38), suggesting that flu vaccination is necessary/very necessary (OR = 4.36; 95%CI = 1.97 - 9.64), having correct knowledge about the consequences of influenza on the fetus (OR = 4.55; 95 %CI = 1.05 - 19.71), assuming that influenza can be prevented by vaccination (OR = 6.45; 95%CI = 1.8 - 35.07), knowing the number of injections needed (OR = 2.66; 95%CI = 1.2 - 5.91) and knowing the facility providing influenza vaccination services (OR = 18.34; 95%CI = 7.74 – 43.46). The above related factors increase the decision to vaccinate against seasonal influenza in pregnant women. Further research is needed to confirm the role of the above factors in improving influenza vaccination proportion in pregnant women.
