Abstract

A cross - sectional study was conducted on a total of 5024 people aged 15 years and older belonging to ethnic minorities (EMs) from 12 provinces in Vietnam with the aim to describe the health status of ethnic minorities in Vietnam. The results showed that some prominent health problems of 12 ethnic minority groups include the rate of illness in the past 3 months (accounting for 73.0%); the rate of diseases among the elderly (accounting for 57.9%); the percentage of women 15 - 49 years old with gynecological diseases (30.5%); (the percentage of women with children under 5 years old with diarrhea (27.4%). There were statistically significant differences by region, age group, gender, education level, and economic status in some health problems encountered by ethnic minorities. To minimize this health situation, comprehensive, demographic based intervention solutions for each ethnic group are required.
