Postnatal homebased healthcare: Curent situation, maternal and newborn health status and issues need to be counselled and supported, in Hanoi during 2022 – 2023

A cross - sectional study was performed on 260 post - discharge women who registered for home health care services of the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2022 - 2023. The research objective is to describe the current status of maternal and newborn care, health problems and information that needs counseling and support. Postpartum maternal health is strongly associated with postpartum infections and mammary disease including blocked milk ducts, lactation, or breast abscess. In which, postpartum infection with symptoms of lower abdominal pain was the most common, accounting for 15.4%, high fever: 5% and foul-smelling discharge (4.2%). The common abnormal health symtoms included insomnia: 26.2%, constipation: 12.7%; hemorrhoids: 10%; urinary incontinence: 10.8%, dysuria: 9.6%, and back pain 8.8%. There were 36.9% of newborns have health problems, the most common are not breastfeeding, jaundice, or exclusive crying. The information that pregnant women need to be consulted and supported is mainly on child care: hygiene, nutrition, vaccination schedule, treatment when fever. The issues that need to be focused on in the counseling and support program at the Home Care Center are: taking care of premature babies, diseases, multiple pregnancies, 3rd children.
