A cross - sectional descriptive study was conducted at all surgical departments, Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, Hai Phong from March 2021 to June 2021 to describe some factors related to surgical site infection (SSI) of patients. The result showed that in a total
of 2866 patients, the rate of SSI was 4.3%. Factors related to SSI included: Patients with chronic disease (OR = 6.37; 95% CI: 3.19 - 12.72), hospital stay time > 7 days (OR = 1.93; 95%CI: 1.18 - 3.18), ASA score > 2 (OR = 8.30; 95%CI: 3.64 - 18.96), infected surgery
(OR = 4.50: 95% CI: 2.62 - 7.71), clean surgery (OR = 2.35; 95% CI: 1.58 - 3.51) and surgery time > 60 minutes (OR = 1.87; 95% CI: 1.21 - 2.87). Hospitals should have special infection control procedures in the operating room for patients having chronic comorbidities, highrisk surgical procedures such as infectious surgery, clean surgery, and surgical time > 60 minutes to limit the risk of SSI.
