Some epidemiological characteristics of dengue hemorrhagic fever in Van Ninh district, Khanh Hoa province, 2017 - 2020

Retrospective study of data from 7/2017 - 12/2020 on dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and vector indicators in Van Ninh district, Khanh Hoa province to describe the epidemiological characteristics of the disease. Clinical diagnosis showed 69,6%, DHF positive cases. There were 3 circulating Dengue serotypes virus: D1, D2 and D4; and there was a change in types of serotypes being responsible for the epidemic each year. D2 was the main serotype detected. The average rate was 603 cases per 100,000 people, the disease outbreaks had occurred at a low ratio: 4.3. Age group and sex were at the same risk, occupation Students - students account for the highest rate of 45.0%, followed by Workers - farming 38.1%, the remaining occupational groups account for a low percentage. Common clinical symptoms included fever ≥ 38.00C (84.5%), headache (96.3%), arthralgia (85.9%), myalgia (46.2%), hemorrhagic manifestation (51.4%) and the tourniquet test (18.9%). Hematology test of Platelet £ 100,000 cells/mm3 (75.6%) and Hct > 42% (33.8%). The outbreaks occurred mainly from September annually and peaked in November, December and the end of the following February. The results also showed DI index correlated with dengue hemorrhagic fever cases (rDI = 0.43; p < 0.05).
