Situation of injuries among pupils at Le Ich Moc secondary School, Thuy Son commune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong in 2019

Abstract

A cross - sectional descriptive study with 1020 pupilsat Le Ich Moc Secondary school, Thuy Son Commune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong, was conducted in 2019 in order to describe the situation of injury among pupils population in this area. The results showed that the proportion of pupil having injured in 2019 (from January 1st to December 31th 2019)
was 20.3%, of which there were 22.9% and 17.4%, for boys and girls, respectively. The main causes of injuries were falls (36.2%), trafc accidents (30.2%) and sharp objects (8.7%). The most common places for accidents were at home (42.7%) and on the way to school (42.2%). Most of accident occurreds from May to August and within the daily time frame from 17-19 hours. Common lesions were lower limbs (47.4%) and upper limbs (30.9%). It is needed to maintain a close coordination between families, schools and the community in enhancing the communication activities on prevention of injuries in the pupils.
