Overweight and obesity situation and some related factors of among High school pupils in Hai Phong, 2019 - 2020

Abstract

A cross - sectional study was conducted
on 1381 subjects who are students of Le Quy Don High school, Hai Phong City to describe overweight and obesity situation and some related factors of among High school pupils in Hai Phong, 2019 - 2020. Students measured weight, height by anthropometric method and interviewed by the questionnaires. Research results show that the prevalence of overweight and obesity was 17.3%, in which boys (25.2%) are higher than girls (11.1%), the percentage of malnutrition was 3.6%. There were some risk factors signifcantly associated with overweight and obesity including: Male (OR=2.86; p < 0.0001), nocturnal binge eating (OR=1.36; p < 0.05), a lack of exercise every day (OR=2.04; p < 0.05), the only child in the family (OR=1.50; p < 0.05), students with both parent having overweight and obesity (OR = 2.45; p <0.001). From the results of study, it is suggested that to reduce the prevalence of
overweight and obesity among students, targets for positive lifestyle changes should be set and managed by the students.
