The study aimed to determine the prevalance and describe some related factors to hypertension in Cham ethnic minority 18 years of age or older in the South-Central Region. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 5.482 Cham people 18 years of age or older at 11 communes in Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provinces from October 2016 to October
2017. The results showed that the prevalence of hypertension in Cham minority group was 31.5% (male: 34.4%, female: 30.3%). The prevalence of newly detected hypertension in the Cham minority group was 20.8% (male: 22.7%, female: 20.1%). Some factors related to hypertension in the Cham ethnic minority group found in the study included obesity, smoking,
salty eating habit, consuming animal fat habit, physical inactivity, education level, marital status, and economic status (p < 0.05). It is necessary to step up the work of hypertension detection and development of risk behavioral change community interventions in order to lower the prevalence of hypertension among the Cham people.
