A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2019 in 15 districts in Hanoi with the aim to describe situation of obesity and its associated factors among children under 5 years old in some urban and rural districts in Hanoi 2019. Anthropometric indicators of 22,988 children under 5 years old were measured and their caregivers were interviewed. Results show that children who are overweight or obese account for 6.5% of all children under study, with the ones who are overweight account for 4.5% and those who are obese account for 2.0%. Male children had 1,6 times greater odds of obesity, compared to female children. The chance of obesity decreases with age among children under 3 years old. The odds ratio of obesity were signifcantly increased by 1,7 times among children who living in urban areas compared to children who living in suburban areas; increased by 2,4 times among children whose birth weights were more than 4000 gram compared to children whose birth weights were less than 4000 gram; increased by 1,2 times among children who is single children in family compared to children who has brother or sister; increased by 2,4 times among children whose mother was overweight compared to children whose mother has normal weight. Therefore, it is necessary to design interventions to improve the health of children under 5 years old by area, and characteristics of family and of the mother.
