The study aims to evaluate the current status and the ability to respond to the examination and treatment of patients with congenital heart defects (CHD) at Children’s Hospital 2, Ho Chi Minh City from 2018 through 2023. The study used retrospective descriptions, data collection from medical records, and annual hospital reports. The information on the number of patients, surgery rates, and related factors is analyzed by statistical methods. As the results, a total of 39,351 CHD patients were examined and treated in the period 2018 – 2023, accounting for 0.46% of the total patient number. The rate of outpatients and inpatients with CHD was 83.6% and 16.4%, respectively. The rate of patients undergoing surgery was only 46.3%, mainly due to limited human resources and facilities dedicated to CHD treatment. The study shows that the current status of treatment for CHD patients at Children’s Hospital 2 was very high, however, the ability to respond to surgery was still limited. It is crucial to have solutions to increase resources and facilities to improve the ability to meet the actual treatment needs of CHD patients.
