The prevalence of anemia significantly differed depending on physiological status and geographical conditions. A cross - sectional study was conducted on 618 students aged 15 - 17 years old at some high schools in Chiem Hoa district and Tuyen Quang city, Tuyen Quang province to describe the status of anemia and some related factors. The study revealed that the prevalence of anemia was 22.8%, indicating a moderate level of public health significance. Additionally, 6.8% of the cases were reported to have moderate to severe anemia. The highest prevalence of anemia was observed in the Dao ethnic group (28.4%), followed by the Tay ethnic group (26.4%). In the Chiem Hoa district, the prevalence of anemia was 25.8% overall, of which 18.2% of cases being mild anemia. Similarly, the prevalence of anemia in Tuyen Quang City was 19.9% and 13.9%, respectively. Multivariable logistic analysis indicated that prevelance anemia of females was 2.5 times higher than males (p < 0.001). The prevelance anemia in students aged 15 - 16 was 1.6 times higher than those who were 17 years old (p < 0.05). Therefore, long-term interventions to prevent anemia in high school students should focus on subgroups such as women, specific age ranges, and ethnic groups in mountainous areas.
