Situation of high methadone dose and related factors in Hai Phong City in 2022

Abstract

A cross - sectional descriptive study on 378 patients undergoing maintenance treatment of opiate replacement with Methadone at 04 Methadone clinics in Hai Phong City aimed to describe situation of high Methadone doses in Hai Phong City in 2022 and some related factors. The results showed that the percentage of high Methadone dose (> 120mg/day) was 45.4%, and the average daily dose of patients participating in the study was 110.70 ± 75.15 mg. Some factors related to high Methadone dose were being treated in an inner-city clinic (aOR = 19.8; 95% CI 6.44 – 61.3; p < 0.01); using injectable drugs before treatment (aOR = 6.47; 95% CI 3.61 - 11.58; p < 0.01); using drugs less than 5 years (aOR = 2.49; 95% CI 1.32 - 4.69); frequency of drug use more than 3 times/day before treatment (aOR = 11.69; 95% CI 3.78 - 36.12; p < 0.01), undergoing anti-retroviral treatment (aOR = 2.57; 95% CI 1.34 - 4.93; p < 0.01), undergoing hepatitis B treatment (aOR = 3.54; 95%CI 1.15 - 10.88; p < 0.05), duration of Methadone treatment over 10 years (aOR = 2.00; 95% CI 1.13 - 3.52; p < 0.05) and non-adherence to treatment (aOR = 2.15; 95% CI 1.1 - 4.19 ; p < 0.05). Treatment facilities need to be concerned with the effective methadone dose for each patient.
