Use contraceptive methods by couples of reproductive age in Kien Quoc commune, Kien Thuy district, Hai Phong City in 2022

Abstract

This is a cross - sectional descriptive study on the use of contraceptive methods by 320 couples of reproductive age from 19 - 49 years old in Kien Quoc commune, Kien Thuy district, Hai Phong city carried out from November 2021 to May 2022. Research results show that the percentage of couples using contraceptive methods is 63.7%, with 39.2% using condoms. Reasons couples do not currently use contraceptives include unintended pregnancy (37.1%) and side effects/accidents (25.9%). The rate of unplanned pregnancy among couples is 32.5%, 32.7% of which chose abortion. The rate of participation in communication sessions on family planning is low (wife: 30.0%; husband: 22.5%). Local authorities must strengthen communication and counselling on reproductive health/family planning, especially for couples of reproductive age.
