Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted in December 2019 on 445 children aged 36 - 60 months in 3 kindergartens in Vu Thu, Thai Binh aimed to descirbe the malnutrition and disease status in children, as well as the association between malnutrition and the diseases. The results of study showed that, the propotion of underweight, stunding and wasting were 12.8%, 24.3%, 3.1% respectively. The rate of respiratory infections was 21.1%, the rate of oral disease (tooth decay, gingivitis) was 50.5%,
3.8% of children have ear infections. The odd ratio of having respiratory disease increase with children sufng from underweight and stunting (underweight OR = 4.7 as compared to non- underweight and stunning OR = 2.8 as compared to non-stunning Communication and intervention programs need to be strengthened to reduce the rate of malnutrition, thereby reducing the risk of diseases in children.
