Knowledge and practice on myopia prevention among ffth-grade pupils attending Ha Dinh primary school in Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi, in 2019

A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried among pupils of Ha Dinh primary school, Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi in 2019 to describe knowledge about school myopia and practice on its prevention. The results show that the percentage of pupils who correctly know about the causes and consequences of myopia was not sufcient, ranging from 8.3% to 93.3%. The percentage of pupils who correctly know about myopia prevention measures range from 50.8% to 86.3%, and the percentage of pupils
who correctly practice the prevention of myopia range from 49.2% to 89.6%. The knowledge of measures necessary to prevent myopia among pupils is not consistent with the correct practice by pupils. The percentage of pupils who obtain information about myopia from parents and relatives is the highest (63.8%), followed by via teachers (62.5%) and the percentage of pupils access the information via TV, radio and internet is the lowest (54.2% and 47.1%). It is necessary to increase communication and education on myopia prevention for pupils, especially focusing on communication solutions through parents and teachers.
