Abstract

Cross - sectional descriptive data of 120 commune health workers (CHW) in 4 provinces of Bac Giang, Hai Duong, Nam Dinh, and Nghe An was analyzed to describe the status of HIV and drug abuse related service delivery and related factors in 2018. The results showed that 58.3% of CHW received trainings related to substance addiction, 78.3% reveived trainings related to HIV/AIDS. The main services provided by CHW including HIV testing (25.0%), ARV adherence support (51.7%), methadone distribution and/or needles and syringes exchange (35.8%), drug urine testing (20.0%), screening for sexually transmitted diseases, hepatitis B, C, tuberculosis (13.3%) and psychological counseling (72.5%).
Supportive factors related to CHWs’ support for ARV adherence, methadone distribution and/or needles and syringes exchange, and psychological counseling were working time over 10 years (OR were 4.2, 2.6, 7.1
respectively and statistically significant), receiving trainings in HIV/AIDS and substance addiction (OR were 3.2, 4.1, 6.4 respectively and statistically significant). The programs for HIV and drug abuse prevention should pay attention to strengthen trainings for CHW on HIV and drug abuse to improve service provision at commune health centers.
