Effectiveness of surveillance of Aedes sp mosquitoes by Gravid Aedes trap in Dong Nai, 2019 - 2020

Abstract

This study aims to evaluated effectiveness of Surveillance of Aedes sp mosquitoes by Gravid Aedes trap in Dong Nai, 2019 - 2020. A study on comparing the efficiency of collecting Aedes sp mosquitoes by Gravid Aedes Trap (GAT) traps and aspirator was conducted in 6 communes in Dong Nai province from 09/2019 to 12/2020, each commune set up 30 GAT traps and collected mosquitoes every 2 weeks by GAT trap and aspirator. The results showed that the GAT trap collected 4.6 times more female Aedes sp mosquitoes than the aspirator (3324/715). Specifically, the GAT trap collected 4.2 times more Aedes aegypti mosquitoesthan the aspirator collected (2745/651) and the GAT trap collected 9 times more Aedes albopictus mosquitoes than the aspiratorcollected (579/64). The trend of vector over time (DI) in urban areas by GAT trap was almost the same by aspirator. DI in rural areas had no similarity when comparing the two methods of GAT and aspirator. GAT traps were more effective, less laborious, and more objective than the aspirator method. The GAT index for monitoring should be established to replace the DI index of aspirator.
