A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 165 nurses and technicians working at the clinical departments of Hai Phong Children's Hospital, from January to September 2018, to describe the current status of knowledge, attitudes, and practice of medical staff. Information was collected by face-to-face interviews and observation through checklists. Research results showed that over 90% of nurses and technicians think that communication skills for patient care practice are necessary, very necessary. The percentage of subjects fulfilling the attitude criteria ranges from 50 - 70%. The percentage of nurses and technicians who have performed practical content while communicating with patients in the treatment department was over 80%; this rate in the medical examination department was 64 - 83%. Attitudes and communication practices of nurses and technicians with patients were not good. The hospital needs to organize short-term training courses on communication skills with patients, build the rules in communication and behavior suitable for each job position.
