Abstract

A cross-sectional study was implemented to describe some risk factors related to stunting in children under 5 years old at the Consultation Department of Haiphong Children Hospital in 2018. Subjects included 302 children under 5 years old and their mother or caregiver. Some factors related to stunting malnutrition at Hai Phong Children’s Hospital clinic include: mother less than 25 với OR= 4.3 (2.3- 7.9); maternal gain weight during pregnancy less than 12 kg with OR= 3.2 (1.7- 5.9); family
having more than 2 children, OR= 2.0 (1.1- 3.8); mother not being a civil servant, OR= 3.2 (1.2- 8.4); birth weight less than 2500g, OR= 3.7 (1.6- 8.5); child weaned before 18 months, OR= 3.2 (1.3- 7.4); child not being supplemented by micronutrients, OR= 2.1 (1.1- 4.0); child not being adequately vacinated, OR= 3.5 (1.3- 9.8). It is needed to councel to mothers about these risk factors so that their children will not suffer from stunting.
