Abstract

A cross - sectional study was conducted on 400 people living in Cap Tien commune, Tien Lang district, Hai Phong City, from December 2022 to August 2023, aimed to describe the status of knowledge, attitudes, practices, and some related factors to food label reading habits. The results showed that 26.3% heard about food label information through healthcare workers. The proportion of people who supposed that reading food labels was very necessary accounted for 30.7%; 42.5% thought that expiration date was necessary information on food labels; 30% were quite confident in food labels. When buying food, the percentage of respondents who often and always read food labels was 36.0% and 9.0%, respectively. Some related factors to the practices of reading food labels as education level above high school (OR = 3.07; 95%CI: 1.27 - 7.4); people thought it was necessary to read labels before buying (OR = 3.32; 95%CI: 2.10 - 5.26); and prioritized buying foods with labels (OR = 2.32; 95%CI: 1.51 - 3.55); trust in food labels (OR= 10.65; 95%CI: 6.57 - 17.27), and knowledge about nutrition (OR = 1.79; 95%CI: 1.09 - 2.95).
