This study aim to describe the characteristics affected the reasons that mothers delayed booster shots for their children from 12 to 36 months old in the Expanded programme on immunization (EPI) at Thu Duc District, Ho Chi Minh City in 2020. A cross-sectional study. The information was collected from 405 mothers having babies from 12 to 36 months old in the period from February to October in 2020. There are some reasons of delaying booster shots, such as the unfriendly attitude of health staffs (79.8%); babys’ sickness (69.6%); the mothers/caretakers were busy or running out of some types of vaccines (60%). The faith of mothers that vaccines can prevent diseases affected in delaying booster shots for their children (13.8%). Conclusions: We need focusing on health communication and education in order to increase the awareness about effectiveness of vaccines for children’s health. On the other hand, we need propose policy to support for mothers in ensuring full immunization coverage and on schedule of vaccines in the Expanded programme on immunization.
