Since 2017, ZIKV infection was reported in many provinces in Vietnam, except in Hanoi. To determine the existence of ZIKV infection in this city, a seroprevalence survey was conducted by collecting samples from healthy people living in Hanoi (12/2018 – 2/2019). The specimens (500 people) were tested for anti-ZIKV immunoglobulin M (IgM), anti-DENV and anti-JEV IgM using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Plaque-reduction neutralization test (PRNT) for ZIKV was conducted for all samples, and PRNT for DENV and JEV among those ZIKV positive by PRNT. Among 500 participants, using ELISA detecting ZIKV IgM antibodies, we identified 11 (2.2%) probable ZIKV infection. ZIKV infection probably occurred in people aged above 50 years old, female and living in high DENV endemic districts. ZIKV PRNT with titers 1:40 were detected in 15 (3%) cases. However, we could not confirm ZIKV infection among these 15 cases due to cross reaction with 4 subtypes of DENV.
