Depressive symptoms and related factors among people having a health check at Hai Phong Medical University hospital, 2022

A cross - sectional study was conducted among 400 participants who had a health check at Hai Phong Medical University Hospital to describe their depressive symptoms and some related factors. Research results indicated that 16% of participants had depressive symptoms. The depressive symptoms prevalence in males and females were 14.0% and 17.6%, respectively. Depressive symptoms were observed more likely among participants who did not join any club activities, did not have good sleep quality with OR (95%CI) of 2.45 (1.1 - 6.2) and 2.24 (1.2 - 4.6), respectively. Job factors related statistically significant to depressive symptoms were job pressure and having difficulties in work with OR (95%CI) of 2.3 (1.1 - 4.5) and 4.5 (1.9 - 10.4), respectively. Participants who did not have a good relationship with family members, a happy family, a conflict with family or friends were more likely to have depressive symptoms than the others with OR (95%CI) of 20.5 (3.7 - 204.6); 11.1 (1.5 - 124.4); 6.6 (2.8 - 15.3) and 3.5 (1.1 - 11.1), respectively. Participants who have not been diagnosed with any disease are associated statistically significantly with depressive symptoms.
