Abstract

Female sex workers are the population at high risk for HIV infection. In Nghe An province, HIV sentinel surveillance (HSS) in 2022 aimed to determine the prevalence of condom use and associated factors with inconsistent condom use with regular clients among female sex worker (FSW). A crosssectional study was conducted among 200 FSWs revealed that consistent condom use in the past month was higher with irregular clients (85.4%), lower with regular clients (79.9%), and lowest with “love mates” (29.5%). Multivariate analysis revealed 3 factors associated with decreased consistent condom use with regular clients, respectively as followed: lower primary education education (OR = 4.18; 95%KTC: 1.15 - 15.15), neverget free condoms (OR = 4.76; 95%KTC: 1.83 - 12.34), did not check up sexually transmitted infections (STIs) last 3 months (OR = 2.51; 95%KTC: 1.04 - 6.02). There is a need to mobalize resource for HIV intervention prevention programs targeting these key populations to increase access to prevention, increase condom use, and to prevent further HIV transmission sustainably.
