Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the situation of urethral bladder catheterization in patients withpost laparoscopic surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia at the Department of Nephrology and Urology, Viet Tiep Hospital in 2021. A cross - sectional study design was used. All of 78 patients who met the study inclusion criteria were collected. The results showed that over 50% of patients are aged of 71 - 80 after laparoscopic surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia. The main cause of catheterization is blood clots. Pipe blockage accounted for the highest rate of 74.3%. The number of patients having to clean the urethral and bladder catheter at least once accounted for the highest rate of 39.7%. The prescribed retention and withdrawal time of sonde only accounts for about 23%, while the retention time of 8 - 10 days is common, accounting for about 60%. Patients with complications with dysuria were the most common after catheter removal, accounting for 35.8%. There was a relationship between complications after catheter removal and catheter retention time with p < 0.05.
