Abstract

A cross - sectional study was conducted with 782 bacterial pathogens from 2483 antibiotic charts that were tested from patients diagnosed with hospital-acquired infections at National cancer hospital - Tan Trieu campus in 2018 - 2020 to describe the distributions of nosocomial pathogens and antibiotic resistance characteristics of some bacteria causing
nosocomial infections. The results showed that 5 most common types of hospital-acquired bacteria were E. coli (17.9%), A. baumamnii (14.7%), P. aeruginosa (10.7%), S. aureus (10.4%), and K. pneumonia (10.0%). The bacteria had high rates of resistance to different antibiotics such as ceftazidime, cefepime, meropenem. The rate of bacteria resistant to at least one antibiotic was 88.9%; 80.9% were multi-antibiotic resistant bacteria, in which E. coli accounted for the highest proportion at 21.3%. The hospital should have guidelines for the use of each antibiotic in the treatment of infected patients to reduce bacterial drug resistance.
