Abstract

The study aimed at investigating the influence of rs1501299 polymophism of ADIPOQ gene in risk of developing metabolic syndrome (MetS) in a middle - aged Vietnamese population. The 5-year prospective study was designed to evaluating of the development of MetS in 1132 participants aged 40 - 64 years in Hanam province. Data on anthropometric measures, lifestyle factors, socioeconomic status, and family diabetes history were collected. Genotypes were identifed using multiplex-PCR method. Univariate and
multivariate Cox proportional hazards model were performed to investigate the contribution of the polymorphism to the incidence of MetS. The results showed that the percentages of GG, GT and TT genotypes in new-onset MetS and non-MetS group were in Hardy–Weinberg and respectively 58.8%, 35.0 % ,6.2%, and 53.1%, 39.4%, 7.5%. The unadjusted and adjusted hazard ratio (HR) (95% CI) of MetS for genotype (GG vs TT and GT) were 1.20 (0.95 - 1.53) and 1.13 (0.88 - 1.44), respectively. The ADIPOQ rs1501299 polymorphism was not found to be significantly influence on the incident MetS in the middle-aged Vietnammes population after 5-year of follow-up.
