A cross-sectional descriptive study was through clinical examination and interviews with 66 patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease treated at the Institute of Marine Medicine to determine the incidence of asthma-COPD overlap syndrome as well as clinical and laboratory characteristics of patients with asthma-COPD overlap syndrome. The study results showed that: The rate of COPD patients with asthma-COPD overlap syndrome was 22.7%. Patients with asthma-COPD syndrome had ≥ 2 exacerbations/year higher than patients with COPD (60.0% and 41.2%). The mean CAT and mMRC scores of patients with asthma-COPD overlap syndrome were higher than those of patients with COPD. Patients with asthma-COPD overlap syndrome have an increased percentage of eosinophils, whose respiratory function exhibits a higher degree of severe and very severe obstruction than patients with COPD alone.
